The Timeline

1976

The Wolf Brand is Born

The Wolf brand made its debut in motorsport in 1976, when Canadian Walter Wolf founded Walter Wolf Racing.

The team competed in the Formula One World Championship for four years between 1976 and 1979 with several drivers, including Jody Scheckter, Keke Rosberg, and James Hunt. Its trophy case during that period included three victories, including one on its debut, one pole position, two fastest laps, 13 podiums, and 79 points. Alongside its Formula One efforts, Wolf also built a closed-wheel Can-Am car in 1977.

The distinctive black and gold livery returned in 2009, when Avelon Formula, managed by Giovanni Bellarosa, decided, after acquiring the brand rights, to launch an innovative project: the Wolf GB08. The car, a CN2 class Sports Prototype powered by a 2-liter Honda engine, was built with great ambitions and aimed to usher in a new era in the category.

2010

Track Debut & First Championship

The car made its track debut on April 25, 2010, at the Misano World Circuit, during the opening round of the Italian Prototype Championship. Ivan Bellarosa dominated the entire weekend, setting pole position and taking the first of a long series of victories.

Throughout the season, the Wolf GB08 was unrivaled, and in October, Bellarosa became Italian Champion after starting from the front row every time, including three pole positions, taking two wins, seven second-place finishes, and five fastest laps. That same month, Bellarosa also achieved his first international success with a win in the Eurosport Prototypes Series.

2011 / 2012

Global Domination

Wolf GB08 CN proved unbeatable in the 2011 and 2012 seasons of the FIA Speed Euroseries, but also won the Asian Le Mans Series, the Belgian Belcar Championship and the Australian Prototype Series, managing to win and set records in every competition that features CN class cars, from the VdeV to the most prestigious endurance competitions such as the 12 Hours of Abu Dhabi and the 24 Hours of Zolder, without forgetting the victory of the 2019 Pikes Peak.

There is also no shortage of attention from VIPs such as the band's drummer Travis Neil Primerose, who personally ordered a Wolf GB08.

2013 / 2014

New Markets, New Models

Wolf GB08 won the Portuguese CISP championship and the Austro-German SCC championship in Division 2, while the factory focused on developing new models to better meet the needs of the American and Asian markets, also expanding production into hillclimb racing.

Among the various new models, the Wolf GB08 stood out, obtaining FIA Formula 1 homologation for 2005.

2015

Le Mans & 6 Hours of Rome

Wolf Racing Cars participated in the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and in November, after triumphing with its Wolf GB08s in the Belgian Belcar championship and the Endurance Champions Cup, Wolf Racing Cars also entered its name in the roll of honor of the 6 Hours of Rome, the most prestigious Italian endurance competition.

2016

First CN Sport Turbo Victory

Wolf Racing Cars began development work on the 1.6 Turbo Power Unit, and on May 29 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, a Wolf GB08 became the first CN-approved Sport Turbo car to win a race.

During the year, the Wolf two-seaters repeated their victory in the Endurance Champions Cup, while in the United States, John Morris and Ron Eckardt achieved several successes in the Spring Mountain Racing (SMMR) series, allowing Ron Eckardt to be crowned champion with his Wolf GB08 SM in the LSR2 class.

2017

Wolf GB08 Tornado

The big news for 2017 is called the Wolf GB08 Tornado, a brand new two-seater Sport that debuted in March in Australia, immediately impressing with its aesthetics and performance, then allowing Ivan Bellarosa to become the 2017 Italian Prototype Champion with 11 victories out of 12 races.

The new Tornado won several Endurance races, including the 3 Hours of Imola and at the 6 Hours of Rome, it was the Tornado that gave Wolf Racing Cars its 100th Pole Position in its history.

2018

GB08 Thunder Selected

In 2018, a natural recognition of the quality and performance of Wolf vehicles came with the Italian Automobile Federation's decision to select the new Wolf GB08 Thunder as the only Sports Prototype admitted to compete in the Italian Championships, which will take place from 2018 to 2022.

2019

World Benchmark

Saw the Wolf GB08 Tornado establish itself as the world benchmark for the category. The car proved faster than even the LMP3 class cars and became the perfect Sports Prototype for Endurance competitions, as evidenced by its titles in the French Ultimate Cup series, as well as its successes in the Italian 2H Endurance Champions Cup and the Middle East Series.

2020

Ford Partnership

In January 2020, an important agreement was signed with Ford Motor Company, by virtue of which Wolf Racing Cars assumed the status of "Specialty Engine Builder" of the American manufacturer. This marked the beginning of a technical and commercial collaboration that will see the debut of the Extreme versions of the Wolf GB08 and Wolf GB08 Tornado, powered by the Ford 5.2 V8 engine, during the year.

2021 / 2022

Extreme Success

The Extreme's great success was confirmed by victories in the Speed Euroseries Championships and the US NASA series. The Thunder, consistently a strong contender in the Italian and French championships, debuted in the single-make series in India (Indian Racing League), in addition to achieving overall victory in the Coupe de France.

In January 2023, the Italian Automobile Federation (ACI Sport) chose the Thunder as the exclusive car for its Junior Hill Climb Championship.
